How to Search Civil Dockets
Two routes cover the search. For Asotin Superior Court civil, domestic, probate, and guardianship matters, one option is free. Use the Washington Courts Name and Case Search. For the fuller Asotin County Superior record, take the Odyssey route with Smart Search. It accepts a party, business, attorney, or case number. Date range, case type, status, and judicial officer also work as search terms. A filter narrows results to Asotin County.
Asotin District Court civil and small-claims records run the limited-jurisdiction route. Current AOC guidance lists Asotin County District Court under re:SearchWA. If that service will not open, call the Asotin District Court Clerk. If the case is old, do the same. You can also go to the courthouse. The statewide index can point you to the right Asotin court. It is not the official file.
- Choose Asotin Superior Court for major civil, property-title, domestic, probate, guardianship, or review matters; choose Asotin District Court for a qualifying limited claim.
- Search by exact case number when available, or by a party or business name.
- Confirm the Asotin court, filing date, case type, and caption before opening the result.
- Read events, hearings, and the Register of Actions rather than treating one calendar line as the full case.
- Request the exact judgment, order, petition, or certified copy from the Asotin clerk who holds it.
Asotin Civil Docket Calendar Blocks
The Asotin County Superior Court calendar splits represented civil matters from pro se civil matters. Pro se means the party has no lawyer. That split only helps scheduling. It does not change the legal force of the case. The calendar also posts its own probate, guardianship, domestic, juvenile, and other docket categories.
The represented civil PDF lists date, time, courtroom, and judge. Case number, caption, party roles, and counsel appear there too. So does the motion or petition set for hearing. It is a fast way to confirm a scheduled Asotin civil matter. Still, it cannot replace Odyssey or the County Clerk's file.
Calendar check: A motion listed for hearing has not necessarily been granted. Look for a later order, judgment, or Register of Actions entry.
What a Civil Docket Shows
Every Asotin County civil docket opens with the Asotin court and cause number. The caption names the parties and their roles. A standard dispute reads plaintiff versus defendant. Probate and guardianship captions look different, naming an estate, guardian, conservator, or protected person. Counsel names sit beside the represented side.
The public PDF is built around the hearing itself. Odyssey holds the longer case history. A complete search can show filing and event dates, parties, hearings, disposition events, and the Register of Actions. Exhibits and financial details never appear on the daily calendar, and not every filed image is promised online.
| Case Number | Civil samples use 26-2-...-02; probate and guardianship samples use 26-4-...-02. |
|---|---|
| Caption | Names the plaintiff and defendant or uses an estate or guardianship style. |
| Party Roles | May identify petitioner, respondent, guardian, personal representative, or court visitor. |
| Event | Shows the motion, petition, review, trial, continuance, or other scheduled work. |
| Result | A final result requires the later docket history and judgment or dismissal document. |
Asotin Civil Docket Court Line
Which court takes a civil case in Asotin County? It turns on the claim, the relief sought, and the dollar amount. Asotin County District Court handles contract disputes, injury claims, property matters, and other civil actions that fit under its statutory limit. That limit sits at $100,000. Interest, costs, and fees are excluded, according to the Asotin County page. Anything above it goes to Asotin Superior Court. That court also takes title or possession of real property, domestic relations, probate, guardianship, and judicial review of government action. The county's official page lays out these limits and the small-claims route:

Municipal courts are not the normal venue for a standard civil claim. Asotin and Clarkston Municipal Courts handle city ordinance, misdemeanor, and traffic matters. A civil search sent there can hide a record that Superior or Asotin District Court actually holds.
| Venue | Asotin County civil docket work | Record keeper |
|---|---|---|
| Asotin Superior Court | Major civil, real-property, domestic, probate, guardianship, and review cases | Asotin County Clerk |
| Asotin District Court | Qualifying civil claims up to the stated jurisdictional limit and small claims | Asotin District Court Clerk |
| Municipal Court | Not the usual forum for standard civil claims | District-administered municipal system |
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
The Asotin County civil court docket is not just lawsuits between two firms or people. Asotin Superior Court records can include property-rights claims and tort or commercial cases. Civil protection orders and petitions show up as well. Domestic matters, probate, and guardianship appear there too. Asotin District Court takes a narrower set of contract, injury, property, and other claims. Small claims are money-only matters on simpler forms and rules.
- Contract, debt, and commercial disputes
- Injury, tort, and property claims
- Domestic and civil protection matters where public
- Probate, estate, guardianship, and conservatorship matters
- Asotin District Court civil actions and small claims
Knowing the case type narrows an Odyssey search fast. It also explains a number pattern or caption. A probate record will not read like a plaintiff-versus-defendant claim, yet both can sit on an Asotin County civil docket.
Asotin Small Claims Docket Steps
Small claims belong in Asotin County District Court, not Asotin Superior Court. RCW 12.40.010 caps the money at $10,000 for a natural person. The cap is $5,000 for any other claimant. Asotin County requires filing in person on the Asotin court form. The Notice of Claim carries the trial date, time, and place.
Service falls on the claimant. Proof of service must reach the Asotin court as required. Each side must hand the other copies of evidence. The deadline is at least seven days before trial. Attendance is mandatory. If the claimant skips the hearing, the claim may be dismissed. If the defendant skips it after proper service, the Asotin court may act. It may enter a default judgment.
Note: Check the Notice of Claim and current Asotin District Court instructions. A docket entry alone does not prove service was completed.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A setting on an Asotin County civil docket tells you when the court plans to act. It may cover a motion, petition, review, or trial. Motions to withdraw, change venue, approve a plan, and dismiss are common entries in the represented sample. So are motions appointing a successor guardian or conservator. Petitions involving a personal representative and minor guardianship review appear there too.
The setting date is easy to misread. It is not the filing date. And it is not a ruling. Hearings get continued, reset, or withdrawn, and sometimes a written order follows instead. Check the latest calendar alongside Odyssey hearings. Add the Register of Actions before relying on any single date. When a date is disputed or changed, confirm it with the proper clerk. The Asotin County court calendar page walks through the Superior and District scheduling channels separately.
One more caution. A scheduling order can set deadlines that never show up as a public hearing at all. Parties should trust their filed order and court notice over the public calendar alone.
Asotin Civil Docket Filing Mix
How busy is the Asotin County civil docket? Washington Courts reported 299 Superior civil filings in 2025. The category table breaks them down. 107 civil protection orders led the list, followed by 82 other matters and 54 property-rights cases. The rest included 26 commercial cases, 16 other petitions or complaints, and 13 tort cases. One case was an administrative-law review. Domestic and probate filings are tallied separately in the annual report. Those records still sit within the same broader Superior access route.
Keep these figures in perspective. They measure court workload, not the status of any single case. To assess an actual matter, pull the individual Asotin County civil docket. Pull the clerk record too. One workload note: the report also counted 16 cases pending more than 24 months.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Access to Asotin court records runs through Washington General Rule 31. The public side of a civil docket can include the case number, caption, event index, hearing entries, and some result data. Plenty stays off limits, though. Confidential information forms, protected family material, medical or mental-health records, sealed documents, and personal identifiers are not ordinary public fields. A sealed item cannot be viewed or copied by anyone outside the case.
Juvenile, dependency, adoption, and mental-commitment matters carry extra restrictions. Sometimes a docket marker stays visible even when the document itself is closed. Cannot find a case? Double-check the Asotin court. Check the party name and the case number before assuming it is restricted. The state index refreshes within 24 hours. It warns that some links or status details may be missing or wrong.
Access controls:
General Rule 31 provides the case-record access framework.
Washington JIS policy defines public index and confidential data categories.
RCW 13.50.050 limits juvenile offender record access.
Documents Behind Asotin Civil Dockets
An Asotin civil docket works like a map, not the territory. Each event line may point to a complaint, answer, proof of service, motion, order, judgment, writ, garnishment, or satisfaction. Each of those sits deeper in the file. A screen print is not a certified copy. For Superior Court matters, the Asotin County Clerk is the official source. Use it for plain, certified, or authenticated copies.
Getting a document is straightforward. File the online Superior document request. You can also return the paper form, mail a request to PO Box 159, or stop at the second-floor counter at 135 2nd Street. Include the exact cause number, document name, and filing date. The County Clerk phone is 509-243-2081. District civil and small-claims copies come from the Asotin District Court Clerk instead, at 509-243-2027.
Closed or archived matters may not surface in the current Asotin search. Contact the court directly rather than guessing. The clerk can also tell you about a restricted file. It may require identification or a court order.
Note: ask for certification only when an official use demands it. A portal view and a clerk-certified Asotin civil record are different products.
